To An Unnamed Solider
Mar 27th, 2008 by Jyll
Dear Sir:
I met your wife today at the Post Office. I heard her tell the clerk that you’d just left for Iraq. She was mailing a package to you so that you’d have it when you arrived.
I could tell by her voice how proud she is of you. And, that she already missed you very much.
It was at that moment that the Spirit moved me. I told the clerk, “I’ll pay for that package.” Your wife said no, but I insisted.
I looked at your wife and said, “It’s the least I can do for what your husband is doing for me and for our country.” I saw the tears well up in her eyes. She hugged me and cried as she said, “Thank you.”
Sir, it was not my intention to make your wife cry. For that, I truly apologize.
I whispered in her ear, “God will watch over him and bring him safely home to you.” She hugged me again and walked away.
I finished up at the Post Office, walked out and got in my car. I dried my own tears and prayed, “Lord, I don’t know this soldier but I ask in Jesus’ name that you keep him safe and bring him home to his family. Amen.”
Throughout the rest of the day, you were always on my mind. I am so thankful for what you and the other soldiers are doing – fighting for freedom and democracy.
God Bless You!
